NISM Certifications · NISM-Series-VI: Depository Operations · Functions of Depository Participant - Dematerialisation
A client has sent a dematerialisation request for 500 shares of a company. The DP generated a Dematerialisation Request Number (DRN) and sent the request electronically to the depository. What is the role of the DRN?
The DRN is a unique request number generated for each dematerialisation request, used to track and link that request among the DP, the issuer or its RTA, and the depository. It is not the account number, the ISIN or the certificate number.
- AIt is a unique number identifying the demat request, used to track it between DP, issuer/RTA and depositoryCorrect
- BIt is the client's demat account number
- CIt is the ISIN of the security being dematerialised
- DIt is the number of the share certificate surrendered
Explanation
The DRN is a unique number allotted by the DP's system to each demat request, and it links the request across DP, RTA and depository. It differs from the BO ID, the ISIN and the certificate number, which identify the account, security and certificate respectively.
