A club has 10 members. The number of ways to select a committee of any size from 1 to 10 members, i.e. at least one member, equals which value?

The answer is 1023. The sum of 10Cr for r from 0 to 10 is 2^10 = 1024, and removing the empty committee (10C0 = 1) leaves 1023 ways.

  1. A1023Correct
  2. B1024
  3. C1000
  4. D1013

Explanation

Total subsets are 2^10 = 1024, which includes the empty selection. Excluding it gives 1024 - 1 = 1023. Option 1024 wrongly counts selecting nobody.
