A consumer dispute between Ritu and a Pune furniture dealer is referred for mediation by the District Commission. Where will the mediation be held under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019?
Mediation is held in the consumer mediation cell attached to the Commission concerned. Since the District Commission referred the dispute, the cell attached to that District Commission hosts it, not the Collector's office, the Central Authority or a venue picked by a party.
- AIn the consumer mediation cell attached to the District CommissionCorrect
- BAt the office of the District Collector
- CIn the premises of the Central Consumer Protection Authority
- DAt any private venue chosen by the dealer
Explanation
Section 79(1) says mediation is held in the consumer mediation cell attached to the District, State or National Commission, as the case may be. Here the reference came from the District Commission, so its cell is used. The Collector's office has no role in mediation.
