A dealer in Pune buys x tables and y chairs. The system is x + y ≤ 40, x ≥ 10 and y ≥ 15. What is the maximum possible number of tables he can buy?
The maximum number of tables is 25. Chairs must be at least 15, so tables can be at most 40 − 15 = 25 within the total limit of 40. At x = 25 and y = 15 all conditions are satisfied.
- A25Correct
- B30
- C40
- D10
Explanation
Since y ≥ 15 and x + y ≤ 40, x ≤ 40 − y ≤ 40 − 15 = 25. At x = 25, y = 15, all constraints hold. So the maximum number of tables is 25; 30 or 40 would force y below 15.
