A factory employs 600 staff: 300 machine operators, 200 assemblers and 100 supervisors. A stratified random sample of 60 employees is to be taken, proportionate to the size of each group. How many assemblers should be sampled?
Twenty assemblers should be sampled. Assemblers make up 200 of the 600 employees, which is one third, and proportionate stratified sampling applies the same fraction to the sample of 60. One third of 60 gives 20 assemblers.
- A20Correct
- B30
- C10
- D15
Explanation
Assemblers are 200/600 = one third of the population. One third of 60 is 20. The answer 30 results from the operators' proportion, and 10 from the supervisors' proportion.
