A frequency table uses the inclusive classes 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34. What are the true (exclusive) class boundaries of the class 25-29?
The true boundaries are 24.5 and 29.5. For inclusive classes the gap between 24 and 25 is 1, so a correction of 0.5 is subtracted from the lower limit and added to the upper limit of the class 25-29.
- A25 and 29
- B24.5 and 29.5Correct
- C24 and 30
- D25.5 and 29.5
Explanation
The gap between the upper limit of one class (24) and the lower limit of the next (25) is 1. Half of it, 0.5, is subtracted from the lower limit and added to the upper limit: 25 - 0.5 = 24.5 and 29 + 0.5 = 29.5. Option 25.5 and 29.5 adjusts only the upper limit incorrectly.
