A shop in Indore displays 9 flags in a row: 4 identical saffron, 3 identical white and 2 identical green. How many different displays are possible?

The answer is 1260. With 9 flags of which 4, 3 and 2 are identical, the displays number 9!/(4!·3!·2!) = 362880/288 = 1260. Ignoring identical flags would give 9! which is far too large.

  1. A1260Correct
  2. B362880
  3. C15120
  4. D2520

Explanation

Number of displays = 9!/(4!·3!·2!) = 362880/(24·6·2) = 362880/288 = 1260. Option 362880 treats all flags as different.
