A spreadsheet holds monthly sales in cells C5:C16 (in $). Cell E1 should show total sales only for months where sales exceed $10,000. Which formula achieves this?
The correct formula is =SUMIF(C5:C16,">10000"). SUMIF adds only the values that meet the criterion. COUNTIF merely counts qualifying months, so it gives a number of months rather than the total sales value.
- A=SUMIF(C5:C16,">10000")Correct
- B=COUNTIF(C5:C16,">10000")
- C=SUM(C5:C16>10000)
- D=IF(C5:C16,">10000")
Explanation
SUMIF adds only those cells meeting the stated criterion. COUNTIF would return the number of months above $10,000, not their total value. The other two are not valid ways to produce a conditional total.
