A State Government proposes to fix minimum wages for the first time by publishing its proposals by notification instead of appointing committees. Ravi, an employer, wants to know the earliest date on which the proposals can be taken into consideration. What is the rule?

The date must be not less than two months from the date of the notification. This period lets affected persons submit representations before the appropriate Government considers its proposals and fixes the minimum rates of wages.

  1. AA date not less than one month from the date of notification
  2. BA date not less than two months from the date of notificationCorrect
  3. CA date not less than three months from the date of notification
  4. DAny date the Government chooses, as no minimum period applies

Explanation

Under Section 8(1)(b), the notification must specify a date not less than two months from its date, on which the proposals will be considered. Three months relates to the commencement of the final notification, not to the consultation period.
