Ananya and her friends want to start a small business in Pune as a company registered under the Companies Act, 2013. Which authority is responsible for administering the Companies Act, 2013 and, through the Registrar of Companies, for registering new companies?
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs administers the Companies Act, 2013, and the Registrars of Companies working under it register new companies and keep their records. RBI, CCI and IRDAI are sector or competition regulators and do not handle company incorporation.
- AReserve Bank of India
- BMinistry of Corporate AffairsCorrect
- CCompetition Commission of India
- DInsurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India
Explanation
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs administers the Companies Act, 2013, the LLP Act and related laws. The Registrar of Companies, an office under the MCA, handles incorporation and registration. RBI regulates banking and money, CCI handles competition, and IRDAI regulates insurance, so none of them registers companies.
