ACCA Applied Skills · Performance Management · Uses and control of information

Dunmore Co's software development team currently buys servers and operating systems and builds its own test environments. It is considering a cloud service that provides a ready-made environment with operating system, databases and development tools, so that its developers can write and deploy their own applications without managing the underlying hardware. Which service model is being considered?

This is Platform as a Service. The provider supplies the operating system, databases and development tools, so Dunmore's developers can build and deploy their own applications without managing hardware. SaaS offers finished applications and IaaS offers only raw infrastructure, so neither fits.

  1. ASoftware as a Service (SaaS)
  2. BPlatform as a Service (PaaS)Correct
  3. CInfrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  4. DPublic cloud deployment

Explanation

PaaS supplies a platform (operating system, databases, tools) on which customers build and run their own applications without managing hardware. SaaS would supply a finished application rather than a development environment. IaaS would give only raw computing resources, leaving Dunmore to install the operating system and tools itself.
