Find the geometric mean of 4 and 25 inserted between them as a single geometric mean.

The geometric mean of 4 and 25 is 10, because the GM of two positive numbers is the square root of their product. The product is 100 and its square root is 10. The figure 14.5 is the arithmetic mean, not the geometric mean.

  1. A10Correct
  2. B14.5
  3. C12.5
  4. D100

Explanation

GM of two numbers a and b is the square root of ab. Here ab = 4 x 25 = 100, so GM = 10. The value 14.5 is the arithmetic mean (4+25)/2 and 12.5 is a wrong half of 25.
