In a Pune factory, 40 skilled workers earn an average daily wage of ₹600 and 60 semi-skilled workers earn an average of ₹450. What is the combined average daily wage of all 100 workers?

The combined average wage is ₹510. Multiply each group's mean by its size to get total wages of ₹51,000, then divide by 100 workers. Taking the simple average of 600 and 450 gives ₹525, which is wrong because the groups are of unequal size.

  1. A₹495
  2. B₹510Correct
  3. C₹525
  4. D₹540

Explanation

Total wages = 40×600 + 60×450 = 24,000 + 27,000 = 51,000. Combined mean = 51,000 ÷ 100 = ₹510. The figure ₹525 comes from simply averaging 600 and 450, which ignores the different group sizes.
