ACCA Applied Knowledge · Business and Technology · Review and appraisal of individual performance

In a typical appraisal process, which step should logically come immediately after the appraiser has assessed the employee's performance against the agreed standards and before agreeing future action plans?

The appraisal interview follows the assessment. After performance is measured against agreed standards, the appraiser discusses the results with the employee, and only then are action plans for development and future objectives agreed. Setting objectives for the ended period occurs at the start of the cycle.

  1. AHolding the appraisal interview to discuss the assessment with the employeeCorrect
  2. BSetting the employee's objectives for the period just ended
  3. CRecruiting a replacement for the employee
  4. DAbolishing the performance standards

Explanation

The process runs from setting objectives and standards, to monitoring and assessing performance, to the appraisal interview, then to agreeing action plans. Objectives for the period just ended were set at the start, so that step is already complete.
