Kaveri Instruments of Pune makes precision weights and sells all of them to buyers abroad; none is sold in India. An inspector asks whether these weights need verification and stamping under the Act. What is the correct position?

The verification and stamping provisions do not apply, because the weights are manufactured exclusively for export. Section 55 exempts such weights or measures from verification and stamping, and no separate Controller order is needed for each consignment.

  1. AThey need verification because every manufacturer must stamp its output
  2. BThey need verification only if the buyers abroad request it in writing
  3. CThe verification and stamping provisions do not apply, as the weights are manufactured exclusively for exportCorrect
  4. DThey are exempt only if the Controller issues a special order for each consignment

Explanation

Section 55(c) says the Act's provisions on verification and stamping do not apply to a weight or measure manufactured exclusively for export. No Controller order is required for the exemption. Option one ignores this exemption.
