Kaveri Packaging Ltd. sells plastic-packed goods. Under India's Extended Producer Responsibility framework for plastic packaging, the board is told the company must ensure the plastic packaging it places on the market is collected and recycled or otherwise processed. Whom does the obligation primarily fall on?

The obligation falls primarily on producers, importers and brand owners who place plastic packaging on the market. Extended Producer Responsibility makes them accountable for collection and recycling or processing of that packaging. Municipal bodies, consumers and recyclers play supporting roles but are not the primary obligated parties.

  1. AProducers, importers and brand owners placing the packaging on the marketCorrect
  2. BOnly the local municipal body of the city of sale
  3. COnly the end consumer who discards the packaging
  4. DOnly the recycler registered on the portal

Explanation

Extended Producer Responsibility makes producers, importers and brand owners responsible for the end-of-life management of the packaging they introduce. Municipal bodies and recyclers have roles, but the obligation is not placed solely on them. Consumers are not the obligated party under the framework.
