Meera files a complaint with the Lokpal alleging a corruption offence. Under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, what is the time limit for filing a complaint, counted from the date of the alleged offence?
A complaint to the Lokpal must be made within seven years from the date on which the offence is alleged to have been committed. The Act bars inquiry into complaints filed after that period, so a limit does exist and it is seven years.
- ASeven yearsCorrect
- BThree years
- CTen years
- DThere is no time limit
Explanation
The Act provides that the Lokpal shall not inquire into a complaint made after the expiry of seven years from the date on which the offence is alleged to have been committed. Three and ten years are not the statutory period.
