Rohit & Co., Jaipur, a registered person, supplied goods in March worth Rs 10 lakh (tax Rs 1.8 lakh) but omitted one invoice of Rs 2 lakh (tax Rs 36,000) in the March GSTR-1. The omission was noticed in May while filing returns for April. Which course is permitted under section 37 and section 39 provisions?

GST does not allow revising a filed return. An omitted invoice is declared in the GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B of a later period, within the permitted time limit for rectification, and the tax short paid carries interest. Ignoring it or revising March is not permitted.

  1. AReport the invoice in GSTR-1 of a later period, subject to the time limit for amendment, with tax paid with interestCorrect
  2. BReport it only by revising the March GSTR-1, as revision of returns is allowed
  3. CIgnore it as returns cannot be corrected once filed
  4. DReport it only through a fresh registration

Explanation

GST law has no revision of returns. Omissions or errors are corrected in the return for a later period, within the time limit (up to the earlier of 30 November following the financial year end or the date of annual return filing), with interest payable on the tax short paid. Option B is wrong since returns cannot be revised. Option C is wrong since correction is permitted.
