The FCRA, 2010 received assent earlier but several provisions were brought into force at the Central Government's discretion. A student asks how commencement works under the Act. Which statement is correct?

The Central Government appoints the commencement date by notification in the Official Gazette, and the proviso allows different dates for different provisions. The Act was brought into force on 1 May 2011. It did not commence automatically, and States have no role in fixing the date.

  1. AThe Act came into force on enactment automatically, with no notification required
  2. BThe Central Government may by notification appoint the commencement date, and may appoint different dates for different provisionsCorrect
  3. CEach State Government appoints the date for provisions applying within that State
  4. DCommencement can be appointed only once and must be the same for all provisions

Explanation
