The Geographical Indications Registry plans to maintain its register wholly in electronic form. Under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, what is the effect of such electronic maintenance on references to entries in the register?

Where the register is kept wholly or partly in electronic form, any reference in the Act to an entry in the register is read as a reference to the entry as maintained electronically. The Registrar may do this subject to the prescribed safeguards.
