The 'less than' cumulative frequencies of daily sales (in ₹'000) of a shop over 60 days are: less than 10: 6; less than 20: 18; less than 30: 40; less than 40: 54; less than 50: 60. How many days had sales of ₹20 thousand or more but below ₹40 thousand?

Thirty-six days had sales from 20 up to below 40 thousand. This equals the cumulative frequency below 40, which is 54, minus the cumulative frequency below 20, which is 18. Taking just one class or going up to 50 gives wrong counts.

  1. A36Correct
  2. B22
  3. C14
  4. D42

Explanation

Days with sales from 20 to below 40 = C(<40) − C(<20) = 54 − 18 = 36. Option 22 is the frequency of the 20–30 class only (40 − 18). Option 42 is 60 − 18, which wrongly includes sales of 40 and above.
