Under the CGST Act, 2017, a registered person has two places of business, both specified in the certificate of registration. Where must the accounts relating to each place of business be kept?
Accounts of each place of business must be kept at that place. The first proviso to section 35(1) says that where more than one place of business is specified in the registration certificate, the accounts relating to each place are kept at that place.
- AAll accounts at the principal place of business only
- BAt the respective places of business to which they relateCorrect
- CAt the place of business of the proper officer
- DAt the registered office of the supplier's bank
Explanation
Section 35(1) requires accounts to be kept at the principal place of business. The first proviso states that where more than one place of business is specified in the registration certificate, the accounts relating to each place shall be kept at that place. Keeping everything at the principal place is therefore wrong.
