Which one of the following errors will NOT be disclosed by the trial balance?
A credit sale omitted completely from the books is not disclosed by the trial balance, because neither the debit nor the credit side is recorded, so totals stay equal. The other errors affect only one side and create a difference.
- APurchases account total wrongly carried forward in the ledger
- BSales of Rs 15,000 posted to the debit side of the Sales account
- CA credit sale of Rs 8,000 completely omitted from all the booksCorrect
- DRent paid of Rs 2,000 posted to the ledger as Rs 200
Explanation
A transaction omitted from the books entirely leaves both debit and credit out, so the trial balance still agrees. A wrong carry forward, a posting to the wrong side and a one-sided wrong amount all make the two totals unequal.
