Which trait is most associated with emotional intelligence in Goleman's framework when a startup leader recognises and manages her own moods before reacting to a crisis?
The relevant components are self-awareness and self-regulation. Recognising one's own moods is self-awareness, and managing them before reacting is self-regulation. Empathy relates to understanding others' emotions and social skill to handling relationships, so neither describes inward emotional management during a crisis.
- ASocial skill
- BEmpathy
- CSelf-awareness and self-regulationCorrect
- DExtrinsic motivation
Explanation
Recognising one's own moods is self-awareness and controlling reactions is self-regulation. Empathy concerns understanding others' feelings and social skill concerns managing relationships. Extrinsic motivation is not a Goleman component, whose motivation element is internal drive.
