CSEET Business Laws and Management (Paper 4) Guide

Paper 4 of the CSEET is an OMR-based objective paper of 100 marks in 2 hours. It has 100 compulsory one-mark MCQs: 60 on Business Laws and 40 on Business Management. There is no negative marking. You score by knowing rules clearly, reading options carefully and attempting every question.

Paper 4 tests whether you understand the basic rules of business law and the core ideas of management. Part A (Business Laws, Questions 1 to 60) covers the legal chapters: Introduction to Law, Company Law, Law of Contracts, Partnership and LLP, Sale of Goods and Negotiable Instruments. Part B (Business Management, Questions 61 to 100) covers Introduction to Management, Functions of Management, Principles and Modern Approaches, and Management Knowledge for Company Secretaries.

All 100 questions are compulsory, four-option, one mark each, and marked on an OMR sheet. There is no negative marking, so a blank answer never helps you. The paper is 2 hours long, with 15 minutes of extra reading time. Remember that you need at least 40% in each paper and 50% in the aggregate, so a strong Paper 4 can lift your total.

Students usually score well here when they learn rules precisely and practise MCQs. Law questions often turn on a single condition, such as who can do something, in what form, or with what effect. Management questions are often definition and concept based, and wrong options look close to the right one. Students who only read casually tend to lose marks on these near-miss options. Students who revise often and solve many MCQs usually do better.

How to prepare Business Laws and Management

Plan for steady, repeated revision rather than one long read. The paper is objective, so your aim is accurate recall of rules and concepts, plus speed in choosing between close options.

  1. Split your time by the paper's structure. Law carries 60 questions and management 40, so give law more study hours but do not skip management, which is easier to score in.
  2. Read each chapter once for understanding. For every legal topic, write the rule in one plain sentence and note its conditions, such as who, when and in what form.
  3. Build a one-page revision sheet per chapter. For law, list definitions, essentials and exceptions. For management, list definitions, features, types and the names linked to each idea.
  4. Learn contrasts in pairs, such as void and voidable contracts, partnership and LLP, condition and warranty, or planning and controlling. MCQs often test the difference between two close terms.
  5. Use Indian examples to fix ideas. Imagine a contract between two Indian firms or a cheque issued by a trader. Examples make rules easier to recall than bare text.
  6. After each chapter, solve 20 to 30 MCQs. For every wrong answer, write why the right option is right and why yours was wrong.
  7. In the last two weeks, solve full 100-question papers in 2 hours. Track your score separately for Part A and Part B and revisit the weaker part.
  8. In the final days, revise only your one-page sheets and your error notebook. Do not start new reference material.

Time management in the exam

  • Use the 15 minutes of extra reading time to scan the paper and see how the questions are worded. Check which questions look easy so you can start with confidence.
  • Aim for about one minute per question. With 100 questions in 2 hours, this leaves a buffer for revisiting doubtful ones.
  • Answer sure questions first on your rough list, and mark doubtful ones. Do not spend three minutes on one question.
  • Since there is no negative marking, attempt every question. Before time ends, make an informed guess for each one you skipped.
  • Shade the OMR sheet carefully. Many students shade in small batches after every 10 or so questions to avoid shifting rows, but do not leave all shading for the last minutes.
  • Keep the last 10 minutes to check that every question has exactly one bubble shaded and that question numbers match.

Mistakes that cost marks in Business Laws and Management

  • Studying only Part A and treating management as optional

Fix: Give management fixed slots each week. It has 40 questions, and its concepts are quick to revise and score.

  • Memorising rules without their conditions

Fix: Write each rule with its condition in one sentence. Ask yourself when it applies and when it does not.

  • Confusing similar terms in the options

Fix: Study these terms as pairs in a contrast list and test yourself on the differences.

  • Not practising full papers under time

Fix: Solve at least a few full 100-question papers in 2 hours before the exam and review your pacing.

  • Leaving questions blank

Fix: Attempt all 100 questions. Eliminate wrong options first, then choose the best remaining one.

  • OMR shading errors

Fix: Check the question number each time you shade, and use the last minutes to verify the sheet.
