A company wants to know whether a written aptitude test can predict later job performance of clerks, by checking if high scorers actually perform better after one year. Which characteristic of a selection test is being checked?

The characteristic being checked is validity. A test is valid when its scores actually predict job performance, which is tested by comparing scores with later performance. Reliability is different because it only concerns whether the test gives consistent results when repeated.

  1. AReliability
  2. BValidityCorrect
  3. CObjectivity
  4. DStandardisation

Explanation

Validity is the ability of a test to measure what it claims to measure, i.e. to predict job performance. Reliability refers to consistency of results on repeated testing. Here scores are compared with later performance, so validity is being checked.
