A State Consumer Protection Council in a State has held only one meeting in a year. Under the Act, what is the position?
The State Council has not complied. Although it meets as and when necessary, the Act requires that not less than two meetings be held every year, so a single meeting is insufficient. The Chairperson fixes only the time and place of meetings.
- ACompliant, since it meets whenever necessary
- BNon-compliant, since not less than two meetings must be held every yearCorrect
- CCompliant, since the Chairperson alone decides the number
- DNon-compliant, since four meetings are required every year
Explanation
Section 6(3) says the State Council meets as and when necessary but not less than two meetings shall be held every year. One meeting falls short. The requirement is two, not four, and the Chairperson only decides time and place.
