A taxi company charges ₹50 fixed plus ₹12 per km. Another company charges ₹20 fixed plus ₹15 per km. For what distance d (in km) is the first company cheaper than the second?

The first company is cheaper when the distance exceeds 10 km. Setting 50 + 12d less than 20 + 15d gives 30 < 3d, so d > 10. At exactly 10 km both charge ₹170, so beyond that the lower per-km rate wins.

  1. Ad < 10
  2. Bd > 10Correct
  3. Cd > 30
  4. Dd < 6

Explanation

First cheaper: 50 + 12d < 20 + 15d, so 30 < 3d and d > 10. At d = 10 both cost ₹170. The option d < 10 reverses the inequality, which would be the case where the second company is cheaper.
