A train 200 m long crosses a platform 250 m long in 30 seconds. What is the speed of the train in km/h?

The speed is 54 km/h. To cross the platform the train covers its own length plus the platform length, 450 m, in 30 seconds. That is 15 m/s, and multiplying by 18/5 converts it to 54 km/h.

  1. A48 km/h
  2. B54 km/hCorrect
  3. C60 km/h
  4. D66 km/h

Explanation

Distance covered = 200 + 250 = 450 m in 30 s, so speed = 15 m/s. Converting, 15 × 18/5 = 54 km/h. Using only 250 m would give 25 m/s = 30 km/h... and using only 200 m gives 24 km/h, both wrong.

One question tells you little. A timed set on Time and Distance shows your real accuracy, how long you take and where you lose marks.
