According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, which of the following needs sits immediately above safety needs?
Social or belonging needs sit immediately above safety needs. Maslow ordered needs as physiological, safety, social, esteem and self-actualisation, and he argued people generally seek to satisfy lower needs before higher ones become strong motivators.
- AEsteem needs
- BSocial (belonging) needsCorrect
- CSelf-actualisation needs
- DPhysiological needs
Explanation
Maslow's order from bottom to top is physiological, safety, social (belonging), esteem and self-actualisation. Social needs therefore come directly after safety. Esteem needs are two levels above safety, and physiological needs sit below it.
