An inspecting officer examines the account books of a registered NGO under the FCRA, 2010 and has reasonable cause to believe that a provision of the Act has been contravened. He seizes the books. The Central Government brings no proceeding for that contravention. After what period must the books be returned to the NGO?

The seized account or record must be returned if no proceeding for the contravention it discloses is brought within six months from the date of seizure. This is the limit set by Section 24 of the FCRA, 2010, so the NGO can demand its books back after six months.
