CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Five persons Tara, Uday, Vimal, Waseem and Yash sit in a row, all facing south. Tara sits at the extreme left end of the row from their own point of view. Uday sits immediately to the right of Tara. Vimal sits in the middle. Yash sits at the extreme right end and Waseem sits immediately to the left of Yash. An observer facing north looks at the row. Who is second from the observer's right end?

Uday is second from the observer's right end. The persons facing south sit, from their own left to right, as Tara, Uday, Vimal, Waseem, Yash. The north-facing observer sees this reversed, so Tara is at the observer's right end and Uday is next to her.

  1. AWaseem
  2. BVimal
  3. CUdayCorrect
  4. DTara

Explanation

From the seated persons' own left to right, the order is Tara, Uday, Vimal, Waseem, Yash. A person facing south has their left on the observer's right, so the observer sees the order reversed. The observer's right end is Tara and the second from the right is Uday. Waseem is the answer if the reversal is ignored.
