Greenleaf Foods Ltd's auditor signed the report on 20 May. After the board approved it, management amended Note 12 for a matter, and the auditor performed procedures restricted only to that amendment, completed on 2 June. Which dating of the auditor's report is consistent with SA 560 on dual dating?

The auditor keeps the original date of 20 May and adds an additional date for the amendment, such as 'except as to Note 12, which is as of 2 June'. The original date shows when the audit work was completed, and the extra date shows later procedures were limited to the amendment.

  1. ARe-date the entire report to 2 June and drop the original date
  2. BKeep 20 May and add an additional date: '20 May, except as to Note 12, which is as of 2 June'Correct
  3. CKeep 20 May only, with no reference to the amendment
  4. DUse 2 June for Note 12 and leave the remaining report undated

Explanation

Under dual dating, the original report date stays unchanged because it tells the reader when audit work on those financial statements was completed. An additional date restricted to the amendment shows that later procedures covered only that amendment. Re-dating the whole report to 2 June would wrongly imply all work was extended to that date.
