In business continuity planning, which term describes the maximum amount of data loss, measured in time, that an organisation can tolerate after a disruption?
The Recovery Point Objective (RPO) is the maximum tolerable data loss measured in time. It determines how frequently backups or replication must occur. RTO, by contrast, concerns how quickly services must be restored after a disruption, not how much data may be lost.
- ARecovery Time Objective (RTO)
- BRecovery Point Objective (RPO)Correct
- CMaximum Tolerable Downtime (MTD)
- DService Level Agreement (SLA)
Explanation
RPO defines how far back in time the restored data may be, i.e. the tolerable data loss. RTO measures how quickly systems must be restored, so it concerns downtime and not data loss. MTD is the absolute limit of outage the business can survive.
