In the classic three-tier client-server architecture of an ERP system, which tier is responsible for executing business logic such as validating a purchase order against budget rules?

The application tier executes business logic. In three-tier ERP architecture the presentation tier handles the user interface, the application tier applies rules such as budget validation and workflow, and the database tier stores and retrieves data. Validation of purchase orders is therefore processed in the application tier.
