Kaveri Engineering, a very small establishment in Coimbatore, keeps its Form III register on a computer. An Inspector visits and asks to see the register. What must the employer do under the 1988 Act?

The employer must make a printout of the register, or the relevant portion, available to the Inspector on demand. Section 4(2) permits electronic maintenance of records, but only on the condition that printouts are supplied when the Inspector asks for them.

  2. BMake a printout of the register, or the relevant portion, available to the Inspector on demandCorrect
  3. CConvert the register to physical form permanently within thirty days
  4. DSubmit the computer itself to the Inspector for retention

Explanation

Section 4(2) allows records on a computer or other electronic media, provided a printout of them or a portion is made available to the Inspector on demand. Section 4(4) also keeps the Scheduled Act's inspection provisions applicable.
