Meera, a member of the State Unorganised Workers' Board, has been absent without leave from four consecutive meetings. The State Government wants to remove her. Which is correct?

The State Government may remove her after giving a show-cause opportunity. Absence without leave for more than three consecutive meetings is a ground for removal under Section 8(2)(b), and the proviso bars removal under that clause unless the person has first been given a chance to show cause.

  1. AIt may remove her, but only after giving her an opportunity to show causeCorrect
  2. BIt may remove her immediately without notice, as absence is a disqualification
  3. COnly the Central Government can remove her
  4. DShe cannot be removed unless convicted of an offence

Explanation

Under Section 8(2)(b), the State Government for the State Unorganised Workers' Board may remove a member absent without leave for more than three consecutive meetings. The first proviso requires a show-cause opportunity for removal under clauses (b) and (c). Immediate removal is therefore wrong.
