Meera Pharma, a regular taxpayer, discovers in the GSTR-3B for August that it under-reported outward taxable supplies by Rs 2,00,000 (tax Rs 36,000). Which course of action is correct under the GST law on rectification of errors in returns?

A filed GST return cannot be revised. An omission or incorrect particular is rectified in the return for a later tax period within the statutory time limit, and the short-paid tax is paid along with interest. The August return itself stays as filed.

  1. ARevise the August GSTR-3B and file it again
  2. BCorrect the omission in the return for a later month, not later than the specified time limit, and pay interest on the short-paid taxCorrect
  3. CIgnore it as no revision of returns is permitted and no interest applies
  4. DRequest the officer to withdraw the return and refile with the original due date

Explanation

GST law does not allow revision of a filed return; omissions or incorrect particulars are rectified in the return for a subsequent period, within the time limit prescribed, and the tax short-paid attracts interest. Option A is wrong as GSTR-3B cannot be revised, and option C is wrong because interest does apply.
