Ravi, a worker at Anand Steels Ltd, filed a grievance application before the Grievance Redressal Committee on 1 March. The committee gave no decision. He is a member of a trade union. Which course is consistent with the Industrial Relations Code, 2020?

Ravi should apply for conciliation to the conciliation officer through his trade union within sixty days from the expiry of the committee's thirty-day period. He cannot go straight to the Tribunal; direct access arises only after forty-five days from the conciliation application.

  1. AFile an application for conciliation to the conciliation officer through his Trade Union within sixty days after the thirty-day period for the committee expiresCorrect
  2. BFile directly before the Tribunal immediately after thirty days
  3. CFile for conciliation personally within one year of the committee's inaction
  4. DFile for conciliation through the Works Committee within forty-five days

Explanation

Under section 4(6) the committee may complete proceedings within thirty days. Section 4(8) lets an aggrieved worker, whose grievance is unresolved in that period, apply for conciliation within sixty days from the expiry of that period, through the Trade Union of which he is a member. Direct Tribunal access under section 4(10) arises only after forty-five days from the conciliation application, so option B is wrong.
