Ravi and Mohan start together from the same point of a 400 m circular track and run in opposite directions at 5 m/s and 3 m/s respectively. After how many seconds will they meet for the first time?

They meet for the first time after 50 seconds. Running in opposite directions on a circular track, their combined speed is 5 + 3 = 8 m/s, and they meet once together they have covered one lap of 400 m. Dividing 400 by 8 gives 50 seconds.

  1. A80 seconds
  2. B100 seconds
  3. C50 secondsCorrect
  4. D200 seconds

Explanation

Running in opposite directions, they close the gap at 5 + 3 = 8 m/s. They first meet when together they cover one full lap of 400 m: 400 ÷ 8 = 50 seconds. Using the difference of speeds (2 m/s) would give 200 s, which applies only when they run in the same direction.

One question tells you little. A timed set on Time and Distance shows your real accuracy, how long you take and where you lose marks.
