The Central Government notifies that a Social Security Organisation will also administer a separate social security scheme. The organisation finds its existing staff cannot complete the extra work. Under the Code on Social Security, 2020, what may the organisation do?

The organisation may assign the additional functions to existing officers or appoint or engage new officers, because Section 13 expressly permits this where existing personnel cannot perform and complete the work, with expenditure borne by the Central Government.

  1. AAssign the additional functions to existing officers or appoint or engage new officers for the purposeCorrect
  2. BSuspend the additional function until the State Government supplies staff
  3. CTransfer the function to a private agency without any notification
  4. DCharge the cost of new staff to the Employees' Provident Fund corpus

Explanation

Section 13 allows the organisation to assign the additional functions to existing officers or to appoint or engage new officers where its existing personnel cannot perform and complete the work. Nothing in it permits suspension, outsourcing without notification, or use of fund money, since the cost is to be borne by the Central Government.
