Under a fast track agreement, the arbitral tribunal enters upon the reference on 1 March. By which date must the award normally be made under Section 29B?

The award must be made by 31 August. Section 29B(4) fixes a period of six months from the date the arbitral tribunal enters upon the reference, so a reference entered on 1 March runs out at the end of August of that year.

  1. A30 June of the same year
  2. B31 August of the same yearCorrect
  3. C31 December of the same year
  4. D1 March of the next year

Explanation

Section 29B(4) requires the award within six months from the date the tribunal enters upon the reference. Six months from 1 March ends on 31 August. Twelve months would be the period for ordinary arbitration, which is not applicable here.
