Under Indian succession practice, which feature of a registered Will makes it different from an unregistered Will?
Registration of a Will is optional in India. An unregistered Will is valid if properly signed and attested by two witnesses, but registering it adds evidentiary value about its execution. A registered Will can still be revoked or altered by the testator.
- AIt cannot be revoked or changed by the testator later
- BIt is legally valid only if it has been registered
- CRegistration is not mandatory, but it adds evidentiary value about its executionCorrect
- DIt overrides all nominations made in financial accounts
Explanation
A Will need not be registered to be valid, provided it is signed by the testator and attested by two witnesses. Registration only strengthens proof of execution and reduces disputes. A registered Will can still be revoked or modified, so the first option is wrong.
