A company's payment database transfers Rs 5,000 from Account A to Account B. The debit on A succeeds, but the system crashes before the credit to B is recorded. After recovery, the debit is also undone. Which ACID property is being enforced?
Atomicity is enforced. A transaction must either complete entirely or have no effect. Because the credit to Account B failed, the earlier debit from Account A is rolled back, leaving the database as if the transfer never started.
- AAtomicityCorrect
- BIsolation
- CDurability
- DConsistency of naming conventions
Explanation
Atomicity means a transaction is all-or-nothing. Since the credit could not be completed, the partial debit is rolled back. Durability concerns preserving committed changes, and isolation concerns concurrent transactions, neither of which is the issue here.
