ACCA Applied Knowledge · Business and Technology · Review and appraisal of individual performance
A manager asks each employee to be assessed by their line manager, two peers, two subordinates and a customer, and then compiles the anonymous feedback into one report. Which appraisal technique is being used?
This is 360-degree appraisal. It gathers feedback from a range of people around the employee, such as the manager, peers, subordinates and customers, rather than relying on one assessor. This gives a rounded view of performance and behaviour.
- A360-degree appraisalCorrect
- BManagement by objectives
- CCritical incident technique
Explanation
Collecting feedback from several sources around the individual (manager, peers, subordinates and customers) is the defining feature of 360-degree appraisal. Management by objectives centres on agreed targets, and critical incident technique records specific examples of good or poor behaviour.
