A manager gives a team member verbal instructions for a task, then asks the team member to explain in their own words what they will do. What is the main purpose of this step in the communication process?
The purpose is to obtain feedback confirming that the receiver understood the message as the sender intended. Asking the team member to restate the instructions closes the communication loop and lets misunderstandings be corrected, rather than changing the channel or creating a formal record.
- ATo select a more formal channel
- BTo obtain feedback confirming the message was understood as intendedCorrect
- CTo reduce the amount of information sent
- DTo record the message for legal purposes
Explanation
Asking the receiver to restate the instructions is a feedback mechanism that closes the communication loop. It checks that decoding matched the sender's intended meaning so errors can be corrected. It does not change the channel, shorten the message or create a legal record.
