CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Eight persons A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H sit in a row facing north. B sits fourth from the left end. A sits immediately to the left of B. G sits second to the right of B. H sits at the extreme right end. C sits between G and H. E sits immediately to the right of B. D does not sit next to A. How many persons sit between D and G?

Four persons sit between D and G. The arrangement from the left is D, F, A, B, E, G, C, H. D is in seat 1 and G is in seat 6, so the seats between them are 2, 3, 4 and 5.

  1. A3
  2. B4Correct
  3. C5
  4. D6

Explanation

Number the seats 1 to 8 from the left. B is at 4, A at 3, G at 6, H at 8, C at 7 and E at 5. D and F take seats 1 and 2. D is not next to A (seat 3), so D is at 1 and F is at 2. Between D (seat 1) and G (seat 6) are seats 2 to 5, which is 4 persons. The figure 3 would come from counting D to E instead.
