CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Eight persons A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H sit at equal distances around a circular table, all facing the centre. B sits third to the right of A. C sits opposite B. D sits immediately to the left of C. E sits second to the left of D. F sits opposite D and is a neighbour of B. G sits immediately to the right of A. H takes the remaining seat. Who sits third to the left of G?

D sits third to the left of G. With A at seat 1 and seats numbered clockwise, the clues place B at 6, C at 2, D at 3, E at 5, F at 7, G at 8 and H at 4. Three seats clockwise from G is D.

  1. AE
  2. BC
  3. CH
  4. DDCorrect

Explanation

Number the seats 1 to 8 clockwise with A at 1. Facing the centre, left is clockwise and right is anticlockwise. Then B=6, C=2, D=3, E=5, F=7, G=8 and H=4. Third to the left of G (seat 8) is seat 3, which is D. E is third to the right of G, so choosing E would be a left-right mix-up.
