CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Eight persons A to H sit around a rectangular table. Three sit on each long side, and one at each short end. All face the centre of the table. A sits at the west end and B at the east end. C, D and E sit on the north side, and F, G and H sit on the south side. C sits to the immediate right of D. E sits to the immediate left of D. G sits opposite D. H sits to the immediate right of G. Who sits to the immediate left of the person opposite the person on B's immediate right?

G is the answer. B at the east end faces west, so B's right is the north side, where E sits. Opposite E on the south side is H. H faces north, so H's left is the west, and G sits there.

Explanation

On the north side (facing south), right is west, so the order from west to east is C, D, E. G is opposite D, so G is the south middle, and H, on G's right (east, facing north), is the south-east seat, leaving F in the south-west seat. B faces west, so B's right is north, which is E. The person opposite E is H. H faces north, so H's left is west, which is G. If someone took B's right as south, they would reach B, which is wrong.
