CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Eight persons sit around a square table, one at each corner and one at the midpoint of each side. All face the centre. The persons at corners are A, B, C, D and those at midpoints are P, Q, R, S, in no fixed order. Clockwise from above, the corners are in order A, B, C, D with one midpoint person between each consecutive pair. P is between A and B. R is opposite P. Q is immediate neighbour of C and is not R. Who sits between D and A?

S sits between D and A. P is between A and B, and R, being opposite P, is between C and D. Q neighbours C but the C-D slot is taken, so Q is between B and C, leaving S for the D-A midpoint.

Explanation

Clockwise order: A, (A-B midpoint), B, (B-C), C, (C-D), D, (D-A). P is between A and B. R is opposite, so R is between C and D. Q neighbours C, and the midpoints next to C are B-C and C-D; C-D is R, so Q is between B and C. The remaining S is between D and A.
